EXPLORA I is the first flagship of Explora Journeys, a high-end luxury brand under the MSC Group. It will be officially put into operation in 2023 and is positioned between traditional luxury cruises and private superyachts. The entire ship is based on “European modern luxury aesthetics” and is built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri, emphasizing the sense of space, privacy and the reshaping of maritime lifestyle.
Compared with traditional cruise ships, the biggest difference of EXPLORA I is its “low-density design”: there are only 922 guests, but it is equipped with 735 crew members, achieving a service ratio of close to 1:1, making the overall experience closer to a boutique hotel than a large cruise ship. All 461 suites on the ship are designed with sea-view balconies. The average area is much higher than the industry standard. Large floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces enhance the immersive feeling of “living with the sea”.
The public space design is highly recognizable. The ship has more than 2,500 square meters of outdoor deck space and multiple infinity swimming pools, maximizing the sea view. The overall atmosphere abandons the entertainment and hustle and bustle of traditional cruise ships, and emphasizes tranquility, relaxation and exquisite social interaction. In terms of catering, EXPLORA I provides 6 theme restaurants and multiple high-end lounges, ranging from Mediterranean cuisine, Pan-Asian flavors to exquisite French cuisine, presenting global high-end catering standards.
The route design also reflects the concept of “slow travel”, with more stops at niche ports and extended stay times, transforming the journey from a “check-in sightseeing” to a deeply immersive experience. EXPLORA I is not a cruise ship in the traditional sense, but more like a mobile maritime resort club, specially built for high-net-worth customers who pursue quality and privacy.
