Enjoy 100% Antarctic beauty on an exclusive luxury flight to the last continent. Antarctica may be closer than you think. Skip the Drake Passage and fly between Punta Arenas and Antarctica. Let our ships take you across continents and immerse yourself in the otherworldly beauty of the highest latitudes on Earth.Take a charter flight from Port Wilhelmuth to King George Island.Today is the day we board the ship. We board the Silversea Silver Cloud cruise ship from King George Island and set sail at 18:00.King George IslandKing George Island As the largest island in the South Shetland Islands, King George Island is considered the gateway to Antarctica. Located just 120 kilometers from the Antarctic Peninsula, it is the only airport in the South Shetland Islands and is the link between "real life" and "Antarctic life".The island is home to more than 10 different countries, with scientific research stations operating year-round or only in the summer (an impressive feat considering that 90% of the island is covered in ice and snow!). Setting up a base on the island makes the country a member of the Antarctic Treaty. There is even a Russian Orthodox church on the island with a resident priest. The island may be home to a few international scientists, but they are vastly outnumbered by the diverse wildlife that considers King George Island their territory. Adélie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins all commute to the Antarctic Peninsula from the island, while Weddell and leopard seals are regular visitors and can be seen in the water or on shore. This naturally brings with it an abundance of birdlife: skuas and southern giant petrels are regular visitors, attracted by the warm climate (warm is a relative term, with average temperatures ranging from 1.5 to -6.5˚C).British explorers discovered the island in 1819 and named it after King George III. Since then, the island has been claimed by both Chile (1940) and Argentina (1943), but it remains part of the British Antarctic Territory.

Antarctic Strait

Antarctica will fill your imagination, one of the most remote, extreme and stunning wildernesses on earth. It's an adventure in its purest form, and only a few are lucky enough to experience the majestic beauty of these monochromatic landscapes. The Antarctic Strait will be your first encounter in this white kingdom, located at the northern end of the Antarctic Peninsula. It extends like a tentacle to Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost tip of South America, also known as the "End of the World."Two shore activities:rubber boat cruise Inflatable portable kayak with a very strong hull. Passengers can get a close-up view of their surroundings, which is especially important in the polar regions with their rich wildlife and stunning ice formations. For example, glaciers move and change over time. When large chunks of ice fall off a glacier, it's called calving, and it's quite a sight. Explore these Antarctica dinghy tours.Hiking Silver Sea Expeditions team members take you on exploratory walks along the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Visits to an Adélie penguin colony or research station will give you a glimpse of how humans and penguins live in this harsh environment. Walk up the hillside to enjoy stunning views of the Antarctic fjords.
